There were long tables set up with mini easels and canvases (pretty big size) on each one. We inhaled it so we could focus on painting (and drinking) during the event. My friend Ripal and I got there and ordered some food. So I bought a coupon on groupon (DO IT- 50% off!) and signed up! Now don’t get excited- mine looks nothing like this but we’ll get to that… I saw this painting and fell in love with it! Have you ever done a “ Paint Nite” event? This was my first time and I think I’m hooked! These events are usually held at a bar and people drink and paint and just relax with friends And I’m sure I’ll be back at Root & Bone because their offerings were really, really good. (i was in food coma basically and forgot to take a pic)Īnyway! It was a great time and so nice to meet her. I was actually too stuffed to enjoy more than a bite of each. We also got two desserts each- a banana pudding parfait and a handmade ice cream sandwich. We also got biscuits and cornbread with their respective jams, deviled eggs two ways and a fried pimento cheese tomato and arugula salad. It consisted of potato salad, collared greens, corn on the cob with a rich buttery sauce drizzled over- and the most important part- fried chicken two ways! Carla did a spicy fried chicken- the kind that wasn’t hot immediately but had a slow burn to it and root & bone gave us a lemony fried chicken that I actually really enjoyed. Last week I had the opportunity to dine at Carla Hall’s Southern Kitchen Pop Up that was held at Root & Bone.Ĭarla Hall is a former Top Chef contestant that now co-hosts ABC’s The Chew – which i love to catch on a day at homeĪfter she came out and introduced herself, her business partner, her soon to be restaurants and the people of root & bone, we got started eating! Homemade macarons- def a YES but with a bit more practice. So even though this was deemed a failure in the end, it was fun and we are all confident that our next batch will be amazinnnngggg and therefore $3 cookies are no longer happening! We’ve decided that they needed to cook for longer- possibly even at a lower temperature- because though the cookies looked good initially and tasted good, they were sticky/undercooked. It was fudge-like and delicious and it got me thinking that if it was softened, it would probably make an incredible filling. We piped them out and let them sit for about an hour to form a skin- as the recipe statedĭon’t they look professional?! my BIL is good at pipingįor filling, you’ll think we’re crazy but we used some re-purposed cake! Here’s the story: Last night, M’s good friend S brought over a DECADENT flourless espresso chocolate cake. The process of making the cookies were not nearly as involved or difficult as any of us thought We got an easy recipe from The Baker Chick and started on our adventure My mother in law and I have been talking about trying to make macarons to replicate the expensive but delicious treats This weekend was spent at M’s parents’ house celebrating the return of my brother-in-law from his time abroad (3 years).
